The world's most enthusiastic urbanists will meet in Oslo in May 2019. Not only because it is the European Green Capital 2019 but also because it will host Europe's largest event for sustainable cities - UFGC19.
DAY 3 PROGRAMME – 36 | Adaptive reuse: See how the former mayonnaise factory for Mills is converted into a new innovative headquarter and a living landmark. The project won the City of Oslo Architecture Award 2017.
Join Ledsten Arkitektur at this stop of the field trip.
DESCRIPTION OF FIELD TRIP HOSTING PARTNER:
Mat- og Merkevarehuset på Grúnerløkka, Mills/ Agra
Mills is a food producer, and when production in the Oslo factory was moved to Fredtikstad, Mills wanted to look at the possibilities of using the old concrete building as their new head office. The environmental savings are enormous in terms of all the waste saving and all the new materials that were not needed when reusing the existing building.
This project shows how old concrete buildings can be reused and and optimised to meet today's high functional requirements in an office and representation building. See how innovative constructive solutions and gentle materials give new life and branding to a traditional factory building on Grunerløkka.
We meet outside and get a review of the building's special facade concept. Inside, we are introduced to the idea behind this transformation and the environmental benefits we can achieve by working with architecture in this way.
